Currently, corporate social responsibility is one of the important requirements that businesses need to fulfill if they want to develop beyond domestic businesses and go further and integrate with the world economy.

WHAT IS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY?

Although corporate social responsibility is not a new definition, it is a new term and category in Vietnam. There are many concepts related to corporate social responsibility. In general, these concepts emphasize that social responsibility is the voluntary commitment of businesses to apply standards and rules to manage and organize their business activities in the market. Currently, many large enterprises in Vietnam such as Nestlé, Samsung Electronics Vietnam, Unilever Vietnam, Vinamilk... are aware that corporate social responsibility has become an indispensable requirement in business operations. For example, La Vie is a member of Nestlé Group. La Vie is currently implementing a sustainable technical support program to help farmers and partners use less water while still achieving productivity, while providing clean and safe water to people in need. Specifically, La Vie has provided technical support to help two partner enterprises use water effectively, with a total water savings expected to reach 20 million liters/year, by reusing water in some stages, such as cooling machinery. This is one of the efforts being made by two members of Nestlé Group in Vietnam to join hands with the community to manage water resources sustainably, to ensure meeting current water consumption needs.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ENTERPRISES

It can be seen that social responsibility issues always receive attention and contribute significantly to business development because of the roles, meanings and benefits of these activities such as:

  • Increasing competitive advantage compared to competitors in the same industry due to responsible and extremely meaningful activities towards the community and society;

A recent survey conducted by the Institute of Labor Science and Social Affairs on 24 enterprises in the two textile and footwear industries has shown that thanks to the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, the revenue of these enterprises has increased by 25%; labor productivity has also increased from 34.2 to 35.8 million VND/worker/year; the rate of exported goods has increased from 94% to 97%. In addition to economic efficiency, enterprises also benefit from building an image with customers, employee engagement and satisfaction, attracting highly skilled workers and future generations.

In fact, social responsibility will have many aspects that enterprises need to ensure. One of the key responsibilities that helps businesses develop sustainably while maintaining social benefits is Environmental Social Responsibility.
